study for crouching figure / étude pour silhouette accroupie was created for dancer Benoît Lachambre and set to music by Rodney Sharman. This solo is part of Chartier’s choreographic series entitled cycle of works on figures, a collection that is strongly inspired by the oeuvre of visual artists. It was performed in Toronto, Ottawa, Regina, Utrecht, Vienna, Antwerp, Dijon and Paris.
In June 2013, it was revisited with dancer Brendan Wyatt for the Terror and Beauty exhibition at the Art Gallery of Ontario featuring the work of painter Francis Bacon which has inspired this solo dance, especially his series of ‘black triptychs’. In June 2015, it was performed for the first time to live music at the Between the Ears music event in Kitchener, and then again at the Orpheum Theatre in Vancouver with members of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.
