Commissioned by Dancemakers and performed by the company, fifty-one pieces of silver is a full evening work, created and fully designed by Chartier as a silvery stage of fifty-one sculptural shapes, a landscape in which the dancers are the powerful, physical force interacting with, and within, a still life full of its own mystery and meaning.

The work drew its impulse from the installations of Cornelia Parker, Eduardo Chillida, Juan Muñoz, the writings of Wassily Kandinsky, the metal sheets of Bilbao, the prairies, the spaces constructed and deconstructed, interrupted events and uncontrollable moments.

Most of all, this work is dedicated to Marie-Josée’s great love, composer and conductor, the late Michael J. Baker. This work won the Dora Mavor Moore Award for Outstanding Choreography in 2002.
